Proposal Draping on the Amalfi Coast: Bespoke Fabric Sculptures at Giardini del Fuenti

In June 2026 we created a luxury proposal setup at Giardini del Fuenti in Vietri sul Mare, on the Amalfi Coast near Salerno, for proposal planners The Yes Girls. The brief had three parts: fabric sculptures to frame the couple at the big moment, a statement backdrop that joined the sea for an unforgettable photo, and an intimate dinner under a sky of flowers on the cliffs.

The concept

The palette was soft, natural white satin, chosen to complement florals by The Vita Fiori. The couple arrived by private yacht, walked through the oceanfront labyrinth garden and reached a raised altar at its centre. Fireworks went up when he got down on one knee.

Everything had to be finished before they stepped off the boat. We had one day to build the whole scene.

Bespoke fabric sculptures

The centrepiece was two entirely bespoke fabric sculptures, each 7 ft (about 2.1 metres) tall, in organic floral petal forms either side of the altar. We made the petals in advance in white satin, then assembled them on an armature on site.

We draped six pillars in the same white, so the sculptures and the pillars read as one design rather than separate pieces.

The backdrop and the dinner

The photo backdrop used traditional pipe and drape, anchored on timber and weighted against the ocean breeze. On both the backdrop and the dinner table we paired heavy swags with deep bustles.

The dinner table carried a custom 5 × 3 metre tablecloth in white satin. Above it, we used the wisteria trellis of the dining patio to hold soft swags of fabric, softening the frames that look out over the sea.

Getting there: when the van doesn't fit

Giardini del Fuenti sits on the cliffs above the sea, reached by a road of sharp hairpin bends. Our van was cleared for height, but it was too long to take the corners, because it has to carry full-length fabric rolls.

We parked higher up and walked every piece down with a trolley. There was no shade on the terrace, so the crew of four worked from 10 am to 6 pm in full sun, with hats, sunscreen and plenty of water.

For planners: check the access route for supplier vehicles before the day, including length as well as height. A van that clears a gate can still miss a hairpin.

When the plan changed

During the day the planner moved the pedestals three times to find the best positions. We had chosen lightweight pedestals that were easy to carry, so each move took minutes, not hours.

For planners: sea breezes shift fabric over the course of an evening. Ask your draping team how each piece is secured so it holds its shape until the last guest leaves.

The project in numbers

  • Two bespoke fabric sculptures, 7 ft (about 2.1 m) tall

  • 70 m of white satin and 30 m of white muslin

  • One custom 5 × 3 m white satin tablecloth

  • Six draped pillars, a photo backdrop and a draped wisteria trellis

  • Crew of four, 10 am to 6 pm

A short checklist for a coastal proposal or wedding setup

  1. Check vehicle access, including length, for every supplier.

  2. Bring plenty of clips and fasteners to keep fabric in place.

  3. Use armatures with some flex, so they absorb a gust instead of tipping over.

  4. Weight every freestanding structure against the breeze.

  5. Plan for sun: shade, water and sun protection for the crew.

Frequently asked questions

Can you make bespoke pieces? Yes. The two fabric sculptures here were designed and made for this proposal and nothing else.

Can we get personalised decor? Yes. For a recent wedding at Monteverdi Tuscany we made a draped welcome sign with the couple's initials. Read more in our Monteverdi Tuscany article.

Can you handle several elements on one project? Yes. Here we delivered sculptures, pillars, a backdrop, a trellis and a dinner table in a single day.

Do you only do draping? Fabric is our speciality, but we also create bespoke fabric sculptures, custom tablecloths and one-off decorative pieces.

Do you travel outside Lake Como? Yes. We're based on Lake Como and work across Italy, from the Amalfi Coast to Tuscany, and in Europe.
